Mukapaanthi - A Celebration Of Aboriginal Veterans

Commissioned by the Australian and South Australian Governments, the entire team at Entanglements Metal Art were humbled to be involved in the design and production of the Mukapaanthi memorial located in Adelaide.

Working alongside Tania Taylor from the Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation and Katie Miller of Cox Architecture, the customised flame sculpture at the heart of the installation was designed and handcrafted by our very own team in our Melbourne-based studio.

Positioned alongside the ceremonial flame sculpture, atop a raised plinth adorned with the word Mukapaanthi, the Kaurna word for remember, are three laser-cut figures; a traditional Kaurna warrior, a solider representing the World Wars, and a modern-day solider. These statues acknowledge and remember both the Kaurna people, who serve Australia both past and present.
Entanglements Metal Art Custom Corten Steel Sculpture
Constructed from Corten Steel, to ensure the piece stands the test of time, the flame sculpture is an enormous 3-metres high and almost 1.5-metres wide. Although Corten Steel as a medium is rigid, the design itself was crafted to create seamless curves with a rusted aesthetic which will develop over time.
