Homestyle Aged Care facility wanted a sculpture installation for the new dementia care annex located at the Melville Grange facility in Berwick, Victoria. The brief they provided Entanglements was to produce a design that utilises colourful shapes. Helen Neyland, Entanglements’ head of design, drew upon her experiences with family members who experience dementia and recalled that balls were used in therapy sessions. She fondly remembers playing a gentle game of catch with her beloved grandmother who suffered from this disease. After tinkering with a collection of three-dimensional shapes. Helen settled on a design that consists of a collection of spheres in various sizes and colours, balancing vertically. The colours are soothing, providing interest when viewed from inside the building and offering a tactile experience for residences when enjoying the garden.
